Roza (روزہ) in Islam – Meaning, Importance, Rules, Types, Benefits & Exam Notes

Roza (روزہ), or Sawm, is one of the five pillars of Islam and an important act of worship that develops Taqwa, self-discipline, patience and obedience to Allah. During fasting, a Muslim abstains from food, drink and other invalidating acts from true dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib) with sincere intention. Fasting in Ramadan was made obligatory in 2 AH, and its major Qur’anic rulings are found in Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 183–187.
